Men & Boys of Color
Work that spotlights the needs of men and boys of color (MBOC) and influences grantmakers to make appropriate responses is a primary focus of JAG's collaborative work for 2012 and beyond. JAG is coordinating partners' work, serving as a clearinghouse for MBOC resources, and advancing collaborative programming. Four of our six partners are also individually engaging in the work.
Many of the details for collaborative work related to MBOC are still being developed, but the current plans include:
Resource Listings
During 2012, JAG is developing a listing (existing on the website and as a downloadable document) that shares access to resources and tools related to MBOC work from JAG, its partners, and other organizations. The listing will continue to evolve as the work evolves. Contributions of others in the field are invited.
Symposiums
Several JAG partners are holding symposiums that bring together funders, nonprofits, thought leaders, and others who are involved in MBOC work. JAG will play a role in coordinating participation and presentations from multiple JAG partners.
Thought Leadership and Analysis
JAG partners are collaborating to develop a joint analysis on MBOC work that incorporates sexual orientation and gender identity. The form of this analysis may range from a briefing to a report or a new grantmaking lens. Research and planning are occurring in 2012.
Possible 2013 MBOC Event(s)
Along with thought leadership and analysis, JAG is considering an event in 2013 that invites engagement with others in the field. Some possibilities include:
- A panel or Q&A presentation during a partner conference
- Site-based tour or panel of nonprofits and groups working on MBOC
- Opportunities for interactive information sharing and networking
- A one-day joint session that allows funders and leaders in the field to collaborate and across race, gender, and sexual orientation
